I've seen the future

Divers (1930) - George Hoyningen-Huene (1900-1968). The composition and the texture of this photograph are flawless. I have a vague memory of it having been the cover of one of Penguin's editions of The Great Gatsby. Sunshine, languor, beauty, and nothing lasts forever.

It is beautiful. I wonder whether it was set up. I love the androgynous woman...she could almost be a man - the haircut, the thick neck - except for the way she's sitting and the hint of a bust. Somehow evocative of a whole era.

I agree, it's lovely, and one of my favourite photographs. It says so much with so little.
