Any colour you want

Airhead "Nicky Hambleton-Jones", who is apparently the presenter of something called 10 Years Younger, although she doesn't look it, says in today's South China (and please put on a silly posh English accent when you read this to yourself, or indeed to any incredulous acquaintance or passer-by): "Your hair can also be incredibly ageing and jet-black hair is incredibly stark and draining on any skin. You can soften it by going for a dark brown or warm brown so it takes the edge off the black that's so popular in Hong Kong."

Er - that would be the natural hair colour of most people in Hong Kong?

I know nothing about her but am quite prepared to construct a "vacuous posh cow" personna based on the photos that come up when you google her.

Is that the blonde dippy with the highbred Anglo-South african accent and the thick rimmed glasses that make her look about seventy?

If it is then I think I saw a programme with her in and was singularly unimpressed. According to her, to look young we all need botox, fillers and white teeth caps. So it does not surprise me that she thinks hair dye would do the trick for 90 odd percent of the Hong Kong population!

I believe so, MSS. Happily, I know nothing about her.

Except, of course, that she knows nothing about Hong Kong...

Gok Wan (black hair, "How to Look Good Naked") is far more sympathetic and far less patronising than N H-B. I've seen some truly incredible transformations on his programme, with not a scalpel, syringe or humungous (and thus out of reach to most of us) production budget to be seen.
